YTC's Indigenous Social Work Diploma (ISWD) achieves full accreditation!
Press Release: Yellowhead Tribal College Achieves ACSW Accreditation
Edmonton, Alberta (December 11, 2021) - The Yellowhead Tribal College is pleased to announce that the Indigenous Social Work Diploma (ISWD) program has been granted full accreditation approval by the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW). With this accreditation, Yellowhead Tribal College’s ISWD program joins its peers in social work education as provincially recognized programs.

The Indigenous Social Work Diploma program has undertaken a rigorous self-evaluation, undergone a comprehensive, independent peer review, and demonstrated compliance with the accreditation standards of the ACSW. Yellowhead Tribal College’s accreditation process has been underway for several years; the ISWD program achieved Candidacy status in 2017, and began work on completing the process for full accreditation, culminating in a site visit in March 2021.
In addition, the Indigenous Social Work Diploma program has demonstrated a commitment to continuous improvement, excellence in social work education, privileging Indigenous ways of knowing and being, and advancing academic quality in its program delivery and operations. “This achievement is evidence of the hard work and sacrifice of past and present program leaders, staff and students over many years - as well as their outstanding competence and commitment to excellence. It opens doors of opportunity for our students and graduates, and enables us to serve our peoples more and more effectively” states Laverne Arcand, CEO of Yellowhead Tribal College.

To deliver Indigenous Social Work programs that appropriately integrate social work pedagogy with Indigenous knowledge, traditions, culture, and to prepare students for social work practice in organizations.
