I am deeply honored to have been chosen as a spotlight student at Yellowhead Tribal College. As I prepare to complete my Bachelor of Social Work degree, I want to take a moment to reflect and give thanks to the college that guided me, to the community that supported me, and most importantly, to my mother, who has stood by me every step of the way.
When I first stepped into Yellowhead Tribal College in 2016, I knew I had found more than just a place to study. I had found a home. From that day on, I was embraced by a community that saw me, understood me, and helped me reconnect with my roots. The energy, culture, and sense of belonging I felt at Yellowhead Tribal College shaped every part of my journey.
Yellowhead Tribal College is a place where education is not just about textbooks it’s about heart, spirit, and connection. The smaller class sizes, access to Elders, cultural teachings, and the compassion of the staff created a learning environment where I could thrive academically, emotionally, and spiritually.
But none of this would have been possible without the love and support of my mom. She has been my rock, my strength, and my biggest supporter. Through every late night, every doubt, every success and setback she was there. Her sacrifices, encouragement, and unwavering belief in me gave me the courage to keep going, even when the journey felt heavy. Mom, this achievement is yours as much as it is mine. Thank you for everything, for your love, your guidance, and your prayers. I carry your strength with me always.
To the Yellowhead Tribal College community, thank you. You gave me the space to grow, the tools to succeed, and the cultural grounding that brought healing into my learning. You reminded me that I am not just a student, but part of something greater, something rooted in identity, community, and responsibility.
To anyone considering Yellowhead Tribal College, know this: this college changes lives. It changed mine. Here, you will find people who care deeply, who see your potential, and who walk beside you as you find your own way.
Thank you, Yellowhead Tribal College, for being such a meaningful part of my life. And thank you, Mom, for being the heart behind every step I’ve taken.
