Program Description
The Health Care Aide Certificate program with an Aboriginal focus is a25 week full-time program brokered and accredited through NorQuest College and delivered on-site at Yellowhead Tribal College. 99% of the NorQuest Health Care Aide Certificate program graduates find jobs in the field. The range of wages for new graduates is between $10 and $18 per hour.
Academic/Admission Requirements
- Grade 10 level English or equivalent
- Clear criminal record check (More than one criminal record check may be necessary during the length of your program, in accordance with work placement requirements.)
- Up-to-date immunization record
- Health status questionnaire completed and submitted
- Must have the physical and mental abilities needed for lab and clinical practice courses
- Computer skills are an asset.
Clinical requirements for students in the full-time program:
- Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers course (BLS)
- Hepatitis B immunization
- Both BLS and immunization will be offered during the HCA program. You do not need to obtain these on your own.

- FOCC - 1000 Focusing on the Client
- BCND - 1000 Assisting with Basic Care Needs
- SCAE - 1000 Assisting with Specific Care Activities
- HPRT - 1001 Health Care Aide Clinical Practice I
Term 2
- HPRT - 1002 Health Care Aide Clinical Practice II
- RRHB - 1000 Roles and Responsibilities of the Health Care Aide
- SCSF - 1000 Assisting with Specific Care Situations
- DEMC - 1000 Dementia Care Education
- XHCA - 1000 Comprehensive Final Exam
In addition to these courses, the course will include Aboriginal Studies and a Language component. Details for these courses are currently under review.
