Program Description

The Health Care Aide Certificate program with an Aboriginal focus is a25 week full-time program brokered and accredited through NorQuest College and delivered on-site at Yellowhead Tribal College. 99% of the NorQuest Health Care Aide Certificate program graduates find jobs in the field. The range of wages for new graduates is between $10 and $18 per hour.


Academic/Admission Requirements

  • Grade 10 level English or equivalent
  • Clear criminal record check (More than one criminal record check may be necessary during the length of your program, in accordance with work placement requirements.)
  • Up-to-date immunization record
  • Health status questionnaire completed and submitted
  • Must have the physical and mental abilities needed for lab and clinical practice courses
  • Computer skills are an asset.


Clinical requirements for students in the full-time program:

  • Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers course (BLS)
  • Hepatitis B immunization
  • Both BLS and immunization will be offered during the HCA program. You do not need to obtain these on your own.

  • PCCA - 100 Principles of Client Care
  • FOCC - 1000 Focusing on the Client
  • BCND - 1000 Assisting with Basic Care Needs
  • SCAE - 1000 Assisting with Specific Care Activities
  • HPRT - 1001 Health Care Aide Clinical Practice I

Term 2


  • HPRT - 1002 Health Care Aide Clinical Practice II
  • RRHB - 1000 Roles and Responsibilities of the Health Care Aide
  • SCSF - 1000 Assisting with Specific Care Situations
  • DEMC - 1000 Dementia Care Education
  • XHCA - 1000 Comprehensive Final Exam

In addition to these courses, the course will include Aboriginal Studies and a Language component. Details for these courses are currently under review.
