Program Description
The Aboriginal Teacher Education Program, funded by the provincial government through ACCESS, is a University of Alberta Bachelor of Education program offered in the community to "allow students to complete a B Ed in Elementary Education while maintaining community,family and cultural connections."We are proud to be the urban site of the Aboriginal Teacher Education Program which aims to serve Edmonton and our communities by training aboriginal teachers for both rural and urban communities.We are presently preparing a cohort of students for the program during the 2008-09 academic year. The program officially commences Fall 2009.The program content integrates an Indigenous perspective at the curriculum, classroom and administrative level.
Admission Requirements
Pre-requisites for the program are:
- Educational Psychology 200
- A sound GPA
- At least 24 transferable credits
During the 2008-09 academic term, students can register and take courses in the Universities Studies program to meet the requirements of ATEP. For courses, refer to the Universities Studies section of the calendar.
